Bible Prophecy and the Book of Revelation
Just wanted to give you all a heads up. Back to the Bible is beginning a nearly two month study of Bible prophecy, by going through the book of Revelation.
At first I thought, “Ugh….” It’s not that I don’t like Bible prophecy or believe in it. I just haven’t taken the time to find out more about it. Having not been a Christian for that long, I find myself delving more into the more “practical” aspects of Christianity that cover daily living.
The only problem with my previous line of reasoning is that life isn’t all about God fixing my problems and making me a “better person”. It’s not even about pouring out my life into others with a bunch of volunteering and charitable giving. That just covers the second part of:
Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV)
37 Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
How can I love the Lord with all my heart soul and mind if I
- Don’t listen to what God tells me
- Don’t understand what God tells me
My life should be about accomplishing God’s will for mankind, and that is tough to do if I don’t know his plan. Of course, knowing his plan requires that I know Him, and the best way to do that is to read what he has written for us – all of it.
The book of Revelation wraps up the plan of God for earth and the human race. Me not reading it is like quitting before the last couple chapters of my favorite novel. Mankind is forever looking for a way to “see into the future,” and this is one way that is actually God-ordained! The episode today on Back to the Bible reinforced that the future plans of God can be frightening, but only if we do not know the Lord. The parts that pertain to those in the body of Christ are not scary. That’s news to me, so I guess I’ll be picking up my Bible and reading along with them.
Dr. Woodrow Kroll of Back to the Bible has taught the Bible for around 40 years, is extremely engaging ,and a real treat to listen to. Great voice for radio, as well. I definitely encourage you to check out the series. You can listen to the daily show free via the Internet, or you may listen over your local radio.
