Christian Female Rocker #1 in Japanese Charts

Krystal Meyers #1 Japanese music chartsFor those of you who are into Christian music, I’m sure you have heard of Krystal Meyers, a very young and talented rock singer/songwriter that recently won a Dove award for best new artist.

For those of you like myself who are either Christians who are slowly warming to Christian music, or those who think Christian music sucks (I did until the past year), I encourage you to check out some of her stuff. She has a ton of free music on her site.

I first learned of her music a couple years ago when I was on her dad’s website. Her father is the creator of e-sword, the #1 free downloadable bible study software in the world (tons of different languages). Very impressive how the Lord can use entire families for his glory.

While her success in the US has been quite refreshing, I am most impressed with her success in Japan. She recently supplanted the Red Hot Chili Peppers for #1 on their radio charts. Most of these people don’t even know what she is saying, but know that her music brings them peace.

I was listening to Back to the Bible ministries’ International update where they spoke with the director of their Japanese ministry. He said that the Japanese people are very curious about Christianity, but it is a very tough mission field. Turning one’s life over to God requres surrender and admission that we need him. In places like Africa, India, or another area with widespread poverty, they don’t have as far to go in order to get to the point of embracing Jesus Christ. For those whose physical needs are already met, it is much tougher.

Technologically advanced societies have convinced us that our brains can supply the abundant life. Maybe they can… for awhile. What happens when the real storms of life come? What about eternity? Most of the people in Japan are of the Shinto faith or are buddhists, and are left feeling a great spiritual void in their lives. In Southeast Asia, the building of buddhist temples even bankrupt the people.

These religions introduce some elements that are remarkably similar to those found in God’s word, but then introduce other elements which serve to harm them, by isolating them from God and fellow man.

That’s how the devil works. He doesn’t show up and say, “Hey, let’s go kill some babies and blow up some buses!” (Most) people wouldn’t go for that. No, he slips in slowly and imperceptibly, using a counterfeit God to isolate us from the truth over time regarding his infinite love for us.

Fortunately God is all-powerful and transcends the various languages of mankind to reach those around the world. It is even more impressive when he uses our youth as his messengers. I encourage you to check out her music. While I might or might not buy the album myself, I would feel perfectly ok getting it for a young adult or child. I guess Christians can be cool after all.
