Christmas Praise Report

Just a little Christmas praise report to build our faith,

I was down in our copy room this morning, and was intent on finishing my task at hand. While working, I felt God prompting me to start a conversation with Becky, one of the ladies that runs the center. At first I ignored the prompting, because I was “busy”. Eventually I listened, and struck up a conversation with her.

After I was exchanging our “What are you doing for the holidays” banter, Becky revealed that she just returned to work after a terrible auto accident driving back from visting family over Thanksgiving.

Her pickup was bumped by an 18-wheeler, she ran into the guardrail and bounced back into the truck. Her truck flipped several times and was completely destroyed - crushed on all sides. She does not remember the accident, but her daughter, who was riding with her does with graphic detail. Thanks to God, both of them walked away with only “minor” injuries. Unfortunately the semi did not pull over, and they never found out who it was.

Even in a horrible circumstance like this, there are many blessings that God provided.

  • Accident happened right at an exit with a hospital
  • A tow truck was 2 cars behind, and stopped to block traffic with its lights on - the accident happened on a curve so it was likely that they would have gotten hit by oncoming highway traffic.
  • Car was totally destroyed - State troopers told her daughter they never saw anyone make it out alive from an accident that bad, much less to walk away.
  • Becky had to have some plastic surgery, but the major cut was in just the right place so we can only see the scar if she closes her eyes and pulls up a bit on her eyebrow.
  • Insurance company gave her well over what the car was worth - how often does an insurance company do that?
  • Bank was lenient, because she did not make the truck payment, being in the hospital. They even helped her file for an extension so she wouldn’t have to pay before the insurance check came.
  • Our firm gave her the full time off to recover… with pay.

Now, here’s the coolest part…

While Becky was in the emergency room, her sister was out in the waiting room. She struck up a conversation with the parents of a little boy who was also in the ER because he stopped breathing while on a trip. The parents said that they got stuck in traffic because of an accident, and turned to check on their son, who was sleeping during the trip. They noticed that he had stopped breathing, and took him to the hospital.

The father said. “I feel bad for the guy in the wreck and all, because he is probably dead - I saw it when we pulled off at the hospital, but I am thankful in a way because we would not have noticed that our son stopped breathing.” Becky’s sister told him that it was her sister that was in the wreck and that she was fine.

We all know that when a person stops breathing they have precious few minutes before they are brain dead, but the timing was just so that the boy is totally fine. Being at the exit with the hospital was pretty nice too : )

Becky’s daughter still has some broken ribs, and I am sure the shock of being in an accident that horrific still weighs on both their minds. Please pray for complete healing emotionally and physically for both of them.

God can always take a bad situation and turn it into something good. Thought you might enjoy.

Feel free to share a story of a Christmas miracle by leaving a comment at the end of this post.

Merry Christmas!
