Faith vs Fear
I’m trying to keep the posts a bit shorter than in “30 Days of Wisdom”…
- Definition of Faith: the substance of things hoped for
- Definition of Fear: faith in things that we do not hope for
I’ve also heard the definitions of faith and fear expressed as thus:
- Definition of Faith: Belief in the promises of God
- Definition of Fear: Belief in the promises of the devil (won’t give him the satisfaction of a capitalization ; )
We run up against these two each day. How do we latch on to the promises of God, while combatting the promises of Satan?
- Remember that Satan has no actual power over us that we do not give to him.
- Read God’s word - The Bible is how we know what God’s promises are. I recommend trying to read every day, even if only for a few minutes. I’m struggle with this one, but have seen extraordinary value in the short bursts of time where I have maintained this comittment (like the previous series…)
- Corporate worship - Obviously we should go to church. This is not because it is “the right thing to do”, but rather because God put us together to operate as a cohesive unit - the “body of Christ”. Also, find a ’small group’ of believers with which you may grow together.
- Get God’s word coming in at other angles - The Internet is a great place to find God’s word. I actually believe that was the primary reason God gave us the idea. For the next few posts, I will share some great resources on the Internet that feed us with the word. Get some audio materials (CDs tapes) to listen to in the car. Find some books, too.
(Hey everyone, I fixed the problem that kept people from posting comments!)
