Our Relationship to God
I have heard people mention with great joy that we are sons (and daughters) of God.
Upside of Having a Father
This is a wonderful description of the relationship for those of us who had parents that loved us and treated us well. This also works for those who did not know their parents at all. These people can do what the kids in “Annie” did - they dreamed about the perfect parents.
Downside of Having a Father
Unfortunately, many people do not have the luxury of wonderful memories of their parents during their childhood. They may have had parents who failed them. These parents may not have shown love, or worse yet hurt their children with words or deeds. This is the largest percentage, because most people do not know the Lord. Even when we do have a personal relationship with the Lord through Jesus Christ, we still make mistakes - we are human.
These children grow up to become adults who have a flawed perpective of God. The fortunate ones learn other ways to relate to God until He can work in their hearts, but many do not.
A New Perspective…
This weekend I attended a conference where one speaker opened with an interesting line which gave a great perspective for those who did not have parents whose example allowed for later parallels to God as our Father, and us as his children.
The speaker referred to herself as “Princess Kathy”. Because we are sons and daughters of the “King of all Kings and the Lord of all Lords”. The word “Prince” or “Princess” brings an entirely new image to mind.
Even for those persons who did not grow up in a country with royalty, we visualize the grandeur and the splendor of being an heir to the throne.
You are Royalty in the Family of God
So, if you are still fighting through the forgiving your parents, or have problems viewing God as a wonderful Father, think of yourself as a Prince or Princess. If Jesus is the Lord of your life, you are indeed royalty - a son or daughter of the King of the Universe - of all that is seen and unseen. According to Jesus we have the same power that was used to raise Jesus from the dead living in us through the Holy Spirit.
Hope this brightens the beginning of your week. This week I will share some of the lessons learned at this weekend’s conference - Cleansing Stream.
Have a blessed day!
