“Sharing Your Faith” : Sharing my Faith with a Praise Report

Hey friends,

Sorry I have been stalling on the posts for “sharing our faith”. My wife had some health problems we needed to take care of. I’ll share a bit about that in a second.

I’m trying to take my own advice from a few posts ago where I suggested that we could do a bit more bragging on God, so I will do some practical “Sharing of our faith” with you today.

Here’s my praise report – not so anyone will feel bad. It’s all God… certainly was not any of our doing – trust me on that : )

My wife works as a therapist here in South Carolina, USA. People here take pretty bad care of themselves on the whole – lots of obesity. She has scoliosis and trying to catch people falling, pulling them up, and other work mishaps resulted in her back and neck getting all screwed up – very screwed up.

She’s a young woman and it is so sad to see her health deteriorating. We kept praying that God would help us though this situation. Her obviously, because she was in pain. Myself, because I just felt so powerless to not be able to help my wife and that frustration manifested itself in a poor attitude and burying myself in work. This made both our relationships with God very shallow.

We were at a local festival two weekends ago and saw a booth for a chiropractor. Usually we go over to the ones that are giving away the free massage, but for some “inexplicable reason” (God) we went over to this one even though there was no freebie. We spoke with the doctor and got a pretty good feeling talking to her. The Chiropractor works on infants and children as well so we felt more safe agreeing to have the doctor examine my wife.

We went through all the testing procedures and the cost of care was estimated at $2,600 even with our insurance – Ouch!

I mentioned in another post that my wife recently received notice that a gas company was putting a pipeline across some property that her grandmother left to her. The land was considered pretty much worthless until then. The check minus the tithe covered this amount completely!!! So, it looked like God gave us that money to pay for the chiropractic services.

Oh, but it gets better. We were planning about putting that money against some student loans or setting it aside when we start trying for a baby, as I’ve heard they are pretty expensive ; ) so we were happy, but a bit dissapointed. Ungrateful, I know. We felt like Jonah after Ninevah when God wilted the plant.

When we were discussing the financials with the doctor, we mentioned that the cost was a consideration in us doing the full treatment plan. The doctor is a real sweetheart, and she said that she worked with people on the payments and even accepted barters in certain cases.

Right then the lightbulb went off in my mind. I own an Internet Marketing firm and thought perhaps she may be interested. I spoke with their business manager and she agreed to accept a proposal.

I came back the next day with my wife for her treatment and made the presentation. Originally they were not as excited about my proposal because they didn’t understand the benefits of Internet Marketing to their Practice. God helped me through the presentation and worked the details of the proposal out perfectly to match their needs.

They accepted the proposal for a full trade – service for service. Our God is an awesome God!

(Another more nugget of God’s blessings) Our church is building a Christian youth center in Mount Pleasant, SC to serve the children of the community. My wife and I were independently praying about an amount to donate to help with the construction. We came up with the same number ($500) – that had to be from God. It may not seem like a lot of money to some, but is a substantial amount to us.

I mentioned before the check for the gas line – tithe portion ($260)
Add to that the tithe for the value of my consulting services ($260)

What does that amount to? That’s right $520!!!

God gave us the idea to give, then within two weeks gave us the money TO give. Again, our God is an awesome God.

And now for the absolute best part – The chiropractor stuff is working, even after three visits! My wife feels so much better. She is sleeping well and says she feels like a 500 pound weight has been lifted off her neck and head. Thank you God!!!

Now, I don’t want you thinking we are some “Super Christians”. We struggle with our faith – mightily at times. Just this weekend we did some really stupid stuff and felt pretty hollow. I don’t know God’s timing in matters, but I do know that you do not have to live a perfect life to be blessed by the Lord.

The Bible tells us that God blesses those that are obedient to his will, but there is no formula. That is tough to swallow for an analytical guy like myself, but as Paul tells us – when you have done all you can to stand – keep standing.

Ephesians 6:13-14 (ESV)
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

My advice? Trust the Lord even when all physical evidence leads you to a contrary conclusion. As the Bible tells us, that is the definition of faith.

Technically I didn’t lie in the last post because this is about sharing our faith – I’m giving you a personal testimony to the working power of God. We can share stories of God’s faithfulness with others. People need to know that God does work in people’s lives today! You may wish to leave out monetary values, but since we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, I feel able to share this with you without judgement.

Next post though – seriously…. no, I really mean it this time…. Tips for sharing our faith!

Lord, bless all those visiting today. Speak to their hearts concerning their needs and comfort them in their areas of concern. God, build our faith – help us to have it like a grain of mustard seed and help us to share you with confidence to our neighbors and friends.

Have a blessed day!

  1. Lord,

Thank you for Matt and Christy’s testimony. Thank you for your power and sovereignty in our lives. Christa and I are so thankful for your healing hand, esp. with Christy’s back. It is amazing to see your timing in things and to recognize that this could have only been your doing. Lord, you make it fun to brag and praise you! May those in need find this site or others like it and just praise your holy and powerful name!

    Amen
