Sharing our Faith: Coincidence… I Think Not!

How do you know when you’re on the right path? I had been struggling with that lately over a variety of decisions. I know where I need to go (at least I think I do) but it seems like there are so many things that need to do that my life feels like a big pile of spaghetti that I’ve been trying to straighten into one long strand.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post – Sharing our Faith – A Living Example, our small group had covered… you guessed it – Ways to share Jesus Christ with others. I do not have much experience with this as I have not been a Christian for all that long. Even then, I was pretty reluctant about each step of the way. I listened intently and “sponged” off the faith of my fellow small group members who had shared their faith with others before. This, by the way is completely allowed. Building up those a “step behind you” is what small groups are all about.

Our church has a special night of celebration the first Wednesday of every month titled most appropriately, “First Wednesday”. Most of the celebration involves praise and worship of the Lord with a short message. Can you guess what the message was about?

Correct! Our Pastor, Greg Surratt did a message about sharing our faith. That’s twice in one week. He shared the results of our church’s online spiritual assessment test (which we can take for free right here to see what areas God has helped us with or we need help with). Sharing our faith with non-Christians was the area our church was weakest in. So at least I know I’m not the only “slacker” out there ; )

I left church wondering whether this was a coincidence – a small group message, I get some weird idea to start posting on a subject I know nothing about, and then the Pastor does a surprise message all in one week.

Once in the car I started listening to the local Christian radio network when Adrian Rogers of Love Worth Finding came on. This guy is great – I heard him speak at last year’s Promise Keepers! The message was about numbers in the Bible and their significance – very interesting, you may listen to it free here – (select April 5).

When Mr. Rogers got to the number “2″ he said that it is the number God uses to signify “confirmation”. Jesus confirmed the covenant of God, John confirmed the coming of Jesus, and he gave several other examples in the Bible. Adrian also threw in the secular example of in the boardroom when someone says, “I second that”.

So, I guess we’re on the right track with “Sharing our Faith”. Not that we need blog posts about it – we need to learn how to do it, and to actually apply it.

I’ll see you again for the next installment in which we will learn an amazing statistic regarding sharing our faith with others.

Thanks for coming – don’t forget to subscribe to either the free email updates or to the RSS feeds on the right of the page. Email a friend of yours as well about the series – that will be our first “test” about sharing our faith. They can be a Christian already. We’ll start slow ; )

I’m pumped. How about you?

Lord, bless everyone joining us today. Touch our lives Lord – wake us up and shake the cobwebs out. Prepare our minds to share these wonderful blessings of truth, faith, and freedom with others.

See you soon & have a blessed day!
