The Word of Promise - New Audio Bible

I posted a few days ago about a new audio version of the New Testament called The Word of Promise. It just arrived in the mail today so I’m going to listen to some of it at work and let you know.

Part of me feels weird about being excited that all these talented Hollywood stars are participating, but then I consider:

  • God gave all these people acting talent. Partly to entertain, but also to give glory to the greatness of God.
  • I’m sure working on this project has touched their lives even if they were already believers
  • Undoubtedly this will draw in some people who may not know God
  • Should also draw in those with reading difficulties
  • Should also draw in those who are too lazy to read the Bible… I still haven’t read it all - shh! :)

I’ll check back in with you later. I’m excited…. pressing… play…. now!

  1. Have you checked out The Bible Experience? The complete version is available on download at audible.com and I’m pretty excited about it being on iTunes. I’m more familiar with the stars on that audiobible than the one you mention. Let me know which actors you think do a better job.

  2. Hey,

Just an update for those reading about The Word of Promise and are interested in hearing this. The official website for the project

    http://www.TheWordofPromise.com

Just launched last night the feature to download the whole thing to your computer/ipod or mp3 player. Pretty cool for $28.95 you get an account that allows you to download as much of it at once or you can return multiple times until you download the whole thing. Now you can take it wherever you go and don’t have to wait to hear it.

    Blessings

  3. I know Jessica already commented on Inspired By…The Bible Experience, but I was if you wanted to hear some sample clips. The Complete Bible was recently released with the New Testament already released last fall. In fact, The New Testament was named the 2007 AudioBook of the Year and has sold more than 325,000 copies, making it not only the bestselling audio Bible, but also one of the industry’s fastest-selling new Bibles. Let me know if you would like to talk further about this project. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to your feedback.

    Have a blessed day,
    Rebecca

  4. It is a sign of the end times, as the Lord our God begins to gather his sheep.

We are now living in the most notorious time of man’s history my dear brothers and sisters. A time when more prophecy has been written in its regards, than any other time.

As the man fell from the zero time continuum, in the Garden of his Eden, and into time and the ravages of death, because of the heavy price paid by our Christ on a cross, we will all soon be returning back to zero time.

Back to no beginning, and without end, a place called Paradise awaits the keepers of the song. And the songs name, is “Good Shepherd.”

    Make a joyful noise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. what the difference between bible exprience and the word of promise??????????????? confused???

  6. I have a copy of both and need to make time to listen through the Bible experience… especially since the Bible Experience sent me a review copy (sorry!)

Basically, both are audio Bibles with a much richer media experience, which I think is awesome. Why should only Hollywood movies get the best talent and technology that God has blessed us with?

The Bible Experience marketed themselves on having an all African-American cast. Why an American-produced Christian product would (A) draw lines based on race in the 21st century or (B) make a point of it in their marketing is unusual (or maybe it isn’t), but I’m sure they have their reasons. That wouldn’t affect my enjoyment of God’s word in the least so I’ll try to get out and about so I can listen on the ipod. Maybe do some yardwork - wife will love that :)
