Walking off the Job
I’ve been reading the book of Ecclesiastes which is a fountain of wisdom from King Solomon which “bookends” the life of this ruler and finalizes the lessons tought throughout the book of Proverbs.
Have you ever had a confrontation with a supervisor that was so frustrating that you considered walking of the job right then? I sure have - I never did though, and looked back at a few of those instances thinking, “Why didn’t I tell them off and leave? Man, I’m a chicken.”
Good news for everyone who identified with that: According to the Bible, staying on the job past the original confrontation is the right thing to do.
Ecclesiastes 10:4 (NIV)
4: If a ruler’s anger rises against you, do not leave your post;
calmness can lay great errors to rest.
I suppose this works both ways - our ruler’s (supervisor’s) error or our own. That contradicts our American strategy of telling a person exactly why we are right, and what we think of them. Satan is all to happy to let our pride get us in hot water.
Fortunately we have this word of God to protect us the next time this situation arises.

Submission is voluntarily placing himself under another for the glory of God. 1 Peter 2:11-19 and Romans 13:1-7
Exactly, honoring a mean boss doesn’t mean that you have to agree. Remember that above all we are to obey God rather than men.
