What was Your Family Secret?

It would be extremely gauche of me to share since this involves other people, so let’s turn that mirror around into your life and just trust me that I have one too. :)

What was the family secret that everyone tried to protect?

Every family does this to some level. Nobody wants the world to know their secrets but in the closed quarters of home life, the gunk will come out. Gunk is probably too nice of a word, so “the evil will come out”. At this point, the family acts like a person does when trying to present themselves on a first date and we hope it all goes away. :) There was a great example of this in the movie/book “The Prince of Tides”

This is a scary question and hopefully the posts leading up to this one that we’ve done on denial have prepared you for it. Going through the Celebrate Recovery process with the Lord will bring up a great amount of pain but it has to be dealt with through repentance and forgiveness. We’ll get to the how later on, but for now, back to the question.

Write this out somewhere - preferably start keeping a recovery journal. This is actually a later step so don’t start writing in it every day because we haven’t covered the safest way to do this so the journaling is a helpful tool in your recovery. Instead, just record periodic expansions on questions where there isn’t enough room to cover it completely in the Celebrate Recovery workbook.
